ISyE Department Seminar Series- Melissa Ruby Banzhaf, PhD

Dr. Banzhaf will provide an overview of the Atlanta Federal Statistical Research Data Center (FSRDC), one of 29 FSRDCs across the country.  The Atlanta FSRDC provides access to numerous internal government-sponsored datasets, including restricted-use versions of the American Community Survey and Decennial Census, the Economic Census, UMetrics data, the Census of Fatal Occupational Injuries, and many other economic and demographic datasets.  With a special focus on projects of interest to statistical researchers, Dr. Banzhaf will explain the advantages of using restricted data, the process for developing a successful proposal to use the data, and the logistics of conducting research in the Atlanta FSRDC.  For more information, please contact or visit the FSRDC website:

Dr. Banzhaf received a BA in economics from Duke University and a PhD in economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She has served as a Census Bureau economist and the administrator of the Atlanta FSRDC since it opened in 2011.  Her current research focuses on the economics of the family and the long-term economic outcomes of air pollution exposure.  Prior to working for the U.S. Census Bureau, she held positions with the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, DC, and Triangle Economic Research and RTI International in Durham, NC.
