Bob Gillen is a professional education instructor for the Georgia Tech Supply Chain and Logistics Institute and a supply chain expert with a background in information technology, transportation, and logistics. He is also a supply chain new product innovator with over 34 years of logistics industry experience in the development of new logistics products leveraging emerging technologies.
Most recently, Bob was a UPS Global New Product manager responsible for evaluating emerging new technologies to identify new UPS e-commerce initiatives and develop product roadmaps. He responsibility included conducting customer and market research to identify innovative new product ideas and concepts to meet the rapidly evolving needs of the digital supply chain as well as conducting new product prototyping and proof-of-concept testing with customers to create and evaluate new e-commerce transportation technology products to bring to market. As a result, Bob has submitted several new product e-commerce patent applications in the areas of mobile, IoT and blockchain, of which 17 patents have been granted by the US Patent Office.
Bob started his 34-year career with UPS as a software developer and established the UPS EDI Group as well as creating new transportation EDI standards for industry approval. He is a past chairmen of the EDI X12 Transportation Subcommittee and a past Board Member of American National Standards Institute (ANSI). During his career he helped launch the first UPS customer warehouse operation, managed UPS' ISO 9000 certification and participated in UPS Strategic Process reengineering projects.
Bob holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Montclair University in New Jersey, a Masters of Science degree in Information Management from Stevens Institute of Technology also in New Jersey and a Masters of Science in International Affairs from Georgia Institute of Technology. He is also a Licensed Custom Broker. Bob resides in a northern suburb of Atlanta, Georgia with his wife Lynn and their three daughters.
