Maria Rey is an educator and consultant on supply chain management and logistics strategies and is a recognized expert in the fields of corporate performance management and the design of global and emerging supply chain strategies. As a supply chain management advisor, Maria has vast experience relating to advising senior executives in the areas of supply systems strategy and high performing organizations across industries including consumer and industrial products, government, manufacturing, retail, and logistics services.

Maria is currently Principal | Advisory Performance Improvement with Ernst & Young LLP. As a Performance Improvement leader, she successfully aligns strong internal teams coupled with a firm’s subject-matter resources, in projects that recognize the trade-offs of optimal processes, financial performance and superior market response. Maria’s experience includes projects in:

  • Supply chain strategy and operations for profitable growth in beverages and consumer products
  • Design and use of  performance management systems and alignment of incentives across business partners
  • Supply chain strategy for omni-channel fulfillment
  • Business models and operating models 
  • Fulfillment and digital demand strategies
  • Servitization (Product-Service Systems)

Before joining EY, Maria was Chief Executive Officer of Periphery Labs, an Atlanta-based firm that audited, managed and developed firms’ peripheries (networks of external business relationships). She was also the founder and Executive Director of the Atlanta-based Center for Emerging Logistics and Supply Chains, which conducted over 100 logistics courses in 16 countries in the Americas and other emerging economies such as Turkey, Russia and Poland. She also served as adjunct faculty at the Georgia Institute of Technology in the Executive Masters in International Logistics (EMIL) and Cranfield University where she taught International Operations, Latin American logistics and design of performance management systems.

Maria has served as a frequent speaker for the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), the Georgia Tech Supply Chain & Logistics Institute, WERC, and ExpoLogistica Panama, Peru and Mexico. She has also keynoted numerous corporate conferences including, The Logistics Congress of the Americas, the Humanitarian Logistics Conference, the Hewlett Packard Summer Executive Series, the Coca-Cola Annual Supply-Chain Conference, and the Brazilian Association of Material and Logistics Managers (ABML). She is fluent, and lectures in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.

Maria is an Economist from Universidad del Rosario in Colombia, with a MSc in International Logistics and Operations from the Georgia Institute of Technology.  She earned her PhD with a specialization in Performance Management from Cranfield University in England.
