Alex Shapiro is a professor in the Stewart School of Industrial & Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech.

Dr. Shapiro's research interests are focused on stochastic programming, risk analysis, simulation based optimization, nondifferentiable optimization and nonsmooth analysis, sensitivity analysis and optimization of queueing networks, sensitivity analysis of nonlinear programs, multivariate statistical analysis. In 2004, Dr. Shapiro joined the list of ISI Highly Cited Researchers. In 2013 he was awarded Khachiyan Prize of INFORMS for lifetime achievements in optimization.

Dr. Shapiro serves on editorial board of a number of professional journals. He was an area editor (optimization) of the Operations Research Journal and currently he is the editor-in-chief of the Mathematical Programming, Series A, Journal
