Dr. Das is a Professor of Mechanical Engineering and of Materials Science and Engineering, and Director of the Direct Digital Manufacturing Laboratory at Georgia Tech. He holds the Morris M. Bryan, Jr. Chair in Mechanical Engineering for Advanced Manufacturing Systems and is also a program faculty in the Parker H. Petit Institute of Bioengineering and Bioscience, and in the Interdisciplinary Bioengineering Graduate Program at Georgia Tech.

Dr. Das’ research interests encompass a broad variety of interdisciplinary topics under the overall framework of advanced design, prototyping, direct digital manufacturing, and materials processing particularly to address emerging research issues in life sciences, propulsion, and energy. His ultimate objectives are to investigate the science and design of innovative processing techniques for advanced materials and to invent new manufacturing methods for fabricating devices with unprecedented functionality that can yield dramatic improvements in performance, properties and costs. His research has been funded by DARPA, NSF, NIH, NRL, ONR, and Rolls-Royce.

As Director of the Direct Digital Manufacturing (DDM) Laboratory, Suman is involved in cutting edge Additive Manufacturing research at the intersection of advanced design methods, manufacturing and materials processing technologies, and materials science. The DDM laboratory strives to invent groundbreaking world class technologies that will have positive societal and economic impacts across a wide variety of industries encompassing the aerospace, biomedical, energy and nanotechnology sectors.
